Friends in Stormy Weather... Chapter 10.4
How to confront an ex-friend and THE RETURN OF STICKY GROSS NIOMI!
Hey ya weirdos…lol
It’s Tiff here (the one in the overalls), well, the actress who plays Tiff🥰. I really like embodying that character because we’re SO different. She’s laconic and strong. She’s definitely less self-actualized than, like, Pen, for example—BUT she has her charms. I hope she gets more ink-time in future chapters.
This story keeps making me think about the idea that “Might Makes Right.” Which sounds true on its face, but, like, at a certain scale, strength is always borrowed, right? Even as an individual, the strength you have is very connected to your standing in a community, the rules you choose to follow (or expect others to), and how the world reacts to your actions… you know?
Okay, I have a real-life example (at the smallest scale). I’m a drama major (I’m actually getting paid in college credit for this role. Anyway, I like to go out on the weekends… I bop around to different parties and NETWORK! It’s exhausting 😅.
SO the other day there was this VERY BIG, VERY STRONG guy that was what you would call small-scale “mighty.” He could have beaten up any individual at any of the parties he went to that night. But he was doing what we call “cruising for a bruising.” He was picking fights with all sorts of people at all sorts of parties. He had the physical strength and the willingness to break “norms” and niceties to get what he wanted. He kept doing that all night, getting thrown out of party after party until he eventually found a party where the smaller, weaker kids felt that what he was doing was NOT RIGHT. The niceties that had protected him from mob retaliation all night broke down. He got beaten up and ended up IN THE HOSPITAL! You could say that the group that beat up the big guy was mightier, so MIGHT still makes RIGHT. OR you could say at a certain point, the fact that a majority of people were ultimately convinced (after seeing this guy all around town, starting the same crud) that the right thing to do was stop him. If that’s true, RIGHT MAKES MIGHT… maybe?
Anyway, I think a good ending for Friends in Stormy Weather is MY CHARACTER totally finally making her own decisions, standing up to everyone, and being RIGHT.
Don’t you?
